Melbourne Zoo, Victoria, with the amazing zoo accommodation campsite set inside the historic Elephant Exhibit. This former animal space now welcomes campers for Roar ’n’ Snore, an evening of wildlife discovery followed by a night under canvas.

When the Day Visitors Leave

An evening walk takes on a different character when your destination is a zoo after closing time. Roar ’n’ Snore brings you into Melbourne Zoo with hosts who share animal stories and lead you through its quieter hours. Along the way, there’s an opportunity to learn how the zoo has evolved into a conservation organisation, before returning to your own tent for the night.

Canvas, Camp Beds and a Little History

Canvas tents and camping mattresses are supplied, with each tent accommodating up to three adults, or two adults and one child. You’ll share with your own party, with toilets within walking distance and available throughout the night. Pack a sleeping bag, pillow, warm layers and comfortable walking shoes. Dusk, Darkness and Dawn

Three hosted walking experiences shape the stay. The published itinerary begins with Lion Gorge at dusk, continues with a night and nocturnal walk, and finishes with a morning adventure. Between outings, guests gather for an Australian barbecue dinner and later supper. Breakfast is served before the final guided walk, so the wildlife discoveries continue before the public gates open.

Keep Exploring after Breakfast

The hosted camp finishes at 9am, but admission for the following day is included. Stay to revisit a favourite area or explore parts of the zoo you haven’t yet seen. It’s a pleasing change of pace: an evening guided by your hosts, followed by a day you can shape yourself.

Plan Your Sleepover

The programme runs from 5:30pm to 9am on selected Thursdays through Sundays, with no camps during June, July or August. Guests must be at least five years old, and anyone under 18 needs an accompanying adult. Private group bookings are also available for celebrations, friends and team gatherings.
